"Data centers can create jobs, investment and important technological infrastructure, but communities should not be left paying the price through higher utility costs, strained water supplies or infrastructure built primarily to serve private companies. The federal government should ensure transparency around energy and water consumption, help states and utilities plan for grid reliability and enforce appropriate environmental protections when federal permits, funding or regulated infrastructure are involved I strongly oppose using nondisclosure agreements or special exemptions to keep communities in the dark. I also oppose weakening local zoning, environmental or land-use protections simply to accelerate a project. These developments should succeed because they benefit the communities where they are located — not because residents are denied a meaningful voice in the process."
